Introduction to Activity 1
In this activity you will choose an animal that you will research, and collect information about it.
Look at the chart in the image below. It shows how animals are categorized into sections depending on how at risk they are on our planet. The more at risk they are, the more they need our help.  

Part 1
You will choose one animal you would like to research form the given list.

Part 2
You will then investigate 5 or 6 different aspects about your chosen animal, before going on to activity 2.

Lesson Objectives
  1. To be able to carry out online research​.
  2. To be able to make factual Notes from research.
  3. To know why a chosen animal is in the 'threatened category' of extinction.

​Instructions:
​Part 1 (Research)

Animals that are at threat from extinction are found in the Threatened Categories as shown in the diagram above.
  • Choose an animal you would like to investigate that is either 'Critically Endangered (CR)', 'Endangered (EN)' or 'Vulnerable (VU)' from the World Wild Life website in the link below.
  • Check with your teacher that the animal is available to research and not already allocated to another student.

Part 2: (Investigate)
​Once your teacher has agreed the animal you will  investigate, choose five or six topics about that animal to research. These will be the sub headings for your narrated report. One of your topics must be 'Why the animal is endangered'. 
  • Choose at least 4 or 5 topics to investigate. (You can use topics form the list below) 
  • Make sure one of your topics is 'Why the animal is endangered'
  • Make short written notes about the each topic for your animal.
